C Pro C WWII Veteran Receives The French Legion Of Honour Medal
Former C Pro C WWII Veteran, Bill Martin, was presented with the French Legion Of Honour Medal in June 2014 by France's Ambassador to Canada.
Bill had received notice of the award in March of this year in recognition of his service in the liberation of France in 1945.
In the above photograph, Bill is shown proudly wearing his French Legion Of Honour Medal on his blue blazer. Also shown in the photo are from left to right: Bill's son Rob, his wife Eileen and his daughter Carolyn.
The accompanying letter states:
This distinction illustrates the profound gratitude that France would like to express to you. It is awarded in recognition of your professional involvement in the liberation of our country. Through you, France remembers the sacrifice of all of your compatriots who came to liberate French soil, often losing their lives in the process. Please allow me to express once more France's respect for your contribution to the combat that led to the liberation of my country." Signed: Philippe Zeller, Ambassador of France to Canada.
